About Guys Bar

Located on Main Street in the heart of Clifden, Guy’s Bar has been welcoming visitors to Connemara for over a century.

The original bar, known as Clancy’s Bar, opened its doors 1903. Like many other bars in Ireland at the time, it doubled-up as a traditional grocery shop. Patrons could socialise and enjoy a drink before getting back to the business of their grocery shopping! In the early 60s, the bar was taken over by the Guy family, the ‘Guy’s’ name has been over the door ever since.

In 2004 Shane O’Grady took over the bar. Shane’s background in catering started in O’Grady’s Seafood Restaurant on Market Street. His influence on the bar’s décor, food and overall ambiance can be felt from the moment you walk in the door.

The bar is a great place to relax beside turf fires and enjoy the company of friends or strangers, young and old. The bar is made of small intimate traditional Snugs, and corners, and whether it be on cold winter’s day or hot summer’s evening, the bar is the perfect setting for an evening meal out, coffees with a friend, or part of a great day out with the family.

Enjoy an evening meal, to the backdrop of some gentle Traditional Irish Music, or hang around till after your meal to participate in the lively traditional Irish music session.

The bar boasts an extensive lunch menu and evening menu with daily specials, as well as a mouth-watering seasonal seafood menu. A great selection of wines are on offer. The wine menu also features Shane’s specially blended French Chardonnay for Guys Bar, read more here.

Lookout for seasonal offers here. If you’re after fantastic food and a warm and cosy atmosphere then Guy’s on Main Street is the place for you.

We look forward to welcoming you here!
